AUGUST 2024

LIFE | LOVE | LOSS
“Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging.”
– Joseph Campbell
Thank you for making time to read our THMF Newsletter. The intention of all the hands, minds and hearts that touch the Taylor Hagen Memorial Foundation is for the words, thoughts and resources shared here to bring insight, perspective, peace, and joy in all that you face.
If you read this monthly, you noticed we did not release one in July. I am working through some health issues and didn’t have the mental clarity or physical strength to sit and type. Thank you for your patience.
ACCEPTANCE AS A FORM OF PEACE
“Accept – then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always works with it, not against it… This will miraculously transform your whole life.”
-Eckhart Tolle
Acceptance is such a powerful thing. When we can truly look at ourselves, all that we are and all that we are not, with an open mind and loving heart we can find and even create peace even amidst the biggest storms of our lives.
Our world is full of storms, conflicts, opposing sides pulling at us. At times it can feel like a stressful and overwhelming place. No matter your views on current topics, peace is a gift only you can give yourself. It is always easy to accept the things we agree with. What happens when you disagree? How do you respond when there is a conflict or upset with someone close to you or someone on TV or social media? How do you feel inside the disagreement? Do you yell, cry, laugh in jest or swear? Do you shake your head inside the seemingly justified feeling of being right while so many others appear wrong?
I encourage you to have peace as your goal this month. Go into every day and every interaction with a commitment to peace. Let that be at the front of your mind and in your heart each day and in every interaction. How will your thoughts differ, will your words change? Will you put disagreements on the shelf to rest for a time before picking them back up? How will things shift with peace as your purpose this month?
Will you speak differently? Will you listen in a new way? Perhaps gossip will not fly as quickly from your lips? Will there be more appreciation and praise? I invite you to look closer at where you can be more accepting of yourself and others. Make this a daily practice as a short-term goal for August.
Let us individually and then collectively tip the scales of upset through mindful acceptance and peace as the prize.
None of us got to choose the losses in our lives. If you asked, I am sure most would be willing to beg, steal or borrow to get those we lost back. I know I sure would. Having to come to the realization that I had to not only accept that my son Joey was gone but that I had to make my peace in accepting that I would never understand his death by suicide was and is a choice I continue to make.
Peace is a choice; one you CAN choose inside of the pain of loss. You can choose peace as a gift to yourself and a way to honor the love you have for who you have lost. I truly believe they want us to have peace, to feel joy, to laugh and experience all the good life still has in store for us. We can create this for ourselves even if it’s in small increments.
Self Care Tip:
“Self care isn’t just drinking water and going to sleep early.
Self care is taking a break when things become overwhelming, saying no to things you do not want to do, allowing yourself to cry, asking for help from those around you, doing things that make you happy.”
@TheDailyReminders
I am excited to see what created peace looks and feels like for you in August and beyond!
All my best,
Genna
